This triathlon was created with disabled people in mind. The proceeds from the entry fees and sponsors’ donations will be allocated to sheltered housing. It is a form of social assistance that prepares, under the care of specialists, those residing there to lead an independent life or supports the residents in everyday functioning. Lena Grochowska Foundation oversees the project. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, PLN 175,000 was raised this year.
The Triathlon ran along a picturesque route in the Lubelskie and Podlaskie Voivodeships. It was 52 kilometres long and divided into three parts: an 8 kilometre run, a 31 kilometre bicycle race and a 15 kilometre canoeing route. The result was calculated as total finish time of the whole team.
Our company was represented by two teams: Olga Komornicka, Marzena Szczurek, Agata Krząstek, Przemysław Feliga as well as Agnieszka Szlapa, Bartosz Grzeszczyk and Michał Zawadzki. The participants fought until the very end, and gave it their all!
The contestants had a chance to admire the beauty of nature in the Bug River Valley. This was particularly important regarding the issue of keeping rivers clean. According to the data of the Chief Environmental Protection Inspector, only 10% of Polish rivers have a very good or good ecological status/potential, while 60% have a moderate status, and 30% – poor or bad status. A significant problem is river pollution with various waste that may upset the balance of the aquatic ecosystem, leading to the extinction of plant and animal species over time.
Operacja Czysta Rzeka [Operation Clean River] was established in the Bug River Valley to improve the situation and combat pollution. Initially, the campaign was set to involve only the clean-up of the Bug river and its tributaries. However, within a few days of announcing it, it turned out that these needs are not limited to this region only, and there are plenty of volunteers eager to join the social initiative across Poland. Moreover, public figures and local leaders quickly joined the campaign. The event gained momentum and one-day activities at the Bug River swiftly turned into a nationwide endeavour. This year, our company has also joined the campaign and we’re attempting to clean up the planet together.
